A New Approach to Energy Education in Mingachevir: MDU and “Mingachevir HPP Cascade” to Jointly Train Specialists

On April 1, 2026, a delegation led by the Rector of Mingachevir State University, Anar Eminov, visited “Mingachevir Hydropower Plant Cascade” LLC.

As part of the visit, the delegation closely ознакомился with the station’s территории and production facilities, gaining detailed insights into the technological processes, working environment, and organization of production.

Following the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation was signed between Mingachevir State University and “Mingachevir HPP Cascade” LLC. The memorandum was signed by Rector Anar Eminov and the Director of the company, Oqtay Pirverdiyev.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Rector Anar Eminov emphasized the significance of the document in strengthening ties between academia and industry. He noted that this cooperation will create broad opportunities for integrating students’ theoretical knowledge with real production environments, enhancing their practical skills, and shaping them into specialists aligned with labor market demands. The rector also highlighted that expanding joint scientific research activities will contribute to increasing the university’s research capacity.

Director Oqtay Pirverdiyev, in his remarks, underlined the critical importance of training qualified professionals for the sustainable development of the energy sector. He stated that the collaboration established with Mingachevir State University will reinforce the integration between education and industry, and that involving industry experts in the teaching process, as well as providing students with hands-on experience in real production settings, will be beneficial for both parties.

Within the framework of the memorandum, the parties agreed to cooperate in engaging students in internships and industrial training programs at “Mingachevir HPP Cascade” LLC; involving company specialists in lectures, seminars, and masterclasses at the university; organizing joint research projects, conferences, and roundtable discussions; improving the quality of specialist training in the energy field; supporting employment opportunities for graduates; and holding consultations to align engineering curricula with industry requirements.

According to the memorandum, it is Mingachevir SES that three engineers from the Hydropower Plant (HPP) will be involved in the teaching process within the Energy Engineering program. This approach will enable students to gain real-sector experience and facilitate the practical application of theoretical knowledge. At the same time, it is planned that the research topics of master’s students will be directly determined by the HPP, and the defense of their research work will also be organized at the enterprise. This will not only enhance the applied nature of the research conducted but also further strengthen its integration with the real sector.

In addition, updating curricula, aligning them with the requirements of the modern labor market, and increasing their practical orientation have been identified as key priority areas.

It should be noted that the signed cooperation documents serve to strengthen coordination between education, industry, and employment policy. This approach aims to make a significant contribution to the development of students’ practical knowledge and skills, the application of innovative approaches, the enhancement of scientific research capacity, and the formation of sustainable human capital in the region.
