“A day with the heroes of the Patriotic War” at MSU: those who made history meet those building the future

On 5 November 2026, a meeting with students entitled “A Day with the Heroes of the Patriotic War” was held at Mingachevir State University (MSU) to mark the sixth anniversary of 8 November – Victory Day.

Participants in the Patriotic War – Rovshan Babayev, Head of the university’s Department of Mathematics, and Mahir Ismayilov, Head of the Department of Mechanics – came together with students. The main purpose of the event was to enrich young people’s knowledge of the 44-day Patriotic War, highlight the significance of the historic Victory, and strengthen the spirit of patriotism among students.

In their remarks, Rovshan Babayev and Mahir Ismayilov spoke about their combat experiences during the war, their personal memories, and the courage demonstrated by the Azerbaijani Army. They emphasised the important role that the selflessness of our servicemen, the unity of our people, and their unwavering devotion to the homeland played in securing victory.

The veterans’ recollections gave students an opportunity to learn about the heroic chronicle of the Patriotic War directly from those who witnessed the events. Alongside preserving historical memory, the meeting encouraged young people to reflect on values such as solidarity, mutual support, and responsibility towards society.

The event contributed to strengthening the bonds between teachers and students, facilitating the exchange of experience between generations, and developing an educational environment rooted in national values at the university. The life experiences of the Patriotic War participants were presented as examples of perseverance, courage, and civic responsibility for young people.

It should be noted that, alongside developing students’ academic knowledge, MSU places particular emphasis on nurturing socially responsible individuals who uphold national and moral values and actively participate in public life. Meetings aimed at preserving historical memory and passing on the legacy of heroism to the younger generation form an important part of the university’s activities in this area.
