On November 5, 2026, a tree-planting campaign was held at Victory Park in Mingachevir on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of November 8 – Victory Day.
Combining the preservation of national memory, the promotion of environmental sustainability, and the strengthening of social responsibility, the initiative aimed not only to pay tribute to the cherished memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, but also to contribute to creating a greener, healthier, and more sustainable living environment for future generations.
Through the joint efforts of the participants, olive, walnut, and almond trees were planted. Olive trees, widely recognized as symbols of peace and endurance, along with walnut and almond trees symbolizing prosperity, the richness of nature, and renewal, further enriched the symbolic and environmental significance of the initiative. Each planted tree was regarded as a symbol of respect for the memory of the martyrs, the transmission of the historic legacy of Victory to future generations, and a shared responsibility for a greener future.
The tree-planting campaign demonstrated the close connection between preserving historical memory and fostering environmental awareness. Aimed at enhancing urban greenery, expanding green spaces, and promoting environmental culture, the initiative also highlighted the importance of social and environmental partnerships between higher education institutions and local government authorities.
At Mingachevir State University, promoting environmental responsibility, advancing the green campus approach, fostering responsible attitudes toward natural resources, and encouraging sustainable lifestyles are among the key priorities of the educational environment. Through such initiatives, the university seeks to strengthen its role as a socially responsible higher education institution that contributes not only to academic development but also to the environmental well-being and social progress of the wider community.
The initiative implemented at Victory Park held particular significance in terms of preserving national and moral heritage, enhancing environmental awareness, and strengthening a shared sense of responsibility toward future generations. By bringing together the moral values of the historic Victory and the commitment to environmental protection, the campaign served as a meaningful example of how the legacy of Victory can be preserved not only through remembrance and respect for the past, but also through constructive and sustainable initiatives aimed at shaping a better future.
