On October 29, 2026, a masterclass entitled “Reservation systems in the tourism sector and competencies required in the labour market” was held for students of Mingachevir State University (MDU).
Organized by Samira Akbarova, a lecturer in the Department of Tourism Business and Marketing, the event featured Vusal Akhundov, Executive Director of the tourism company “Sky Group,” as a guest expert. The main objective of the masterclass was to reinforce students’ theoretical knowledge through practical examples, develop their digital skills, and raise their awareness of labour market requirements in the tourism sector.
During the meeting, Vusal Akhundov provided detailed information about the importance of reservation systems in the tourism sector, their operating principles, and their role in the activities of modern tourism enterprises. The importance of using these systems to organize service processes efficiently and respond promptly to customer inquiries was explained.
The masterclass included a live connection to the “Galileo” reservation system. The guest expert demonstrated the ticket search and reservation process through the system. The presentation enabled students to observe the application of theoretical knowledge in a real work process and become familiar with the sequence of reservation procedures.
The interactive meeting focused on digital tools used by tourism companies and the competencies necessary for professional practice. Students expanded their knowledge of how reservation operations work, how services are organized, and the sector’s actual job requirements.
Integrating the industry representative’s experience into the teaching process helped broaden students’ professional perspectives, strengthen their practical preparation, and enable them to assess future career opportunities more clearly. The meeting also contributed to developing links between higher education and the labour market and enriching quality education opportunities with practical content.
Mingachevir State University continues to implement teaching initiatives that support the development of students’ digital and professional skills, working approaches based on the efficient use of resources, and their preparation for a sustainable tourism sector.
