Language Training in Line with International Standards at MDU: CEFR-Based Placement Tests Held

Foreign language placement tests were held at Mingachevir State University (MDU), organized by the International Language Centre of the Lifelong Learning School. Conducted on September 17 and 24, as well as October 4, 2026, the tests aimed to assess participants’ language proficiency and form appropriate learning groups.

The tests focused on determining participants’ foreign language proficiency at levels A1–C2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Based on the results, participants will be assigned to groups corresponding to their proficiency levels, and language courses aligned with CEFR requirements will be organized for them. This approach supports teaching tailored to individual learning needs and the gradual development of language skills.

The tests were organized and supervised by the Head of the Division and the Training and Teaching Affairs Specialist. The assessment process was guided by the principles of transparency and objectivity.

Organizing language instruction by proficiency level is important for expanding access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for students and staff. Developing foreign language skills facilitates access to international academic and educational resources while strengthening readiness to participate in academic mobility programmes, intercultural communication, and international cooperation initiatives. Activities in this area contribute to human capital development and the strengthening of a continuous learning environment at the university.

MDU plans to hold placement tests regularly to provide systematic support for the development of students’ and staff members’ foreign language proficiency.
