On 26 October 2026, an educational workshop entitled “Let’s learn, discover and develop with STEAM” was held at the Mingachevir STEAM Centre with the participation of Mingachevir State University (MSU), within the framework of the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture”.
The event was organised by Aytekin Karimova, a lecturer in the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology at Mingachevir State University. Turkana Kazimli, a lecturer in the same department, and students majoring in Technology participated in the event.
The main purpose of the event was to promote the use of modern educational technologies, develop participants’ innovative thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills, and highlight the importance of the STEAM approach, which integrates science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, in the educational process.
During the meeting, Mushfig Tariverdiyev, Head of the Mingachevir STEAM Centre, provided detailed information about the centre’s activities, main responsibilities and educational opportunities. He stated that, unlike traditional teaching approaches, the STEAM education model connects theoretical knowledge with practical activities, strengthens interdisciplinary integration and helps unlock learners’ creative potential.
The presentation also addressed the significance of STEAM education for sustainable development, efficient resource use, environmental responsibility and the development of modern urban environments. It was noted that combining engineering and technological knowledge with creative approaches opens up broad opportunities for energy efficiency, smart city solutions, the investigation of environmental problems and the development of innovative projects. In this regard, the STEAM approach plays an important role in preparing competitive professionals for the future and advancing society’s technological development.
Mushfig Tariverdiyev also provided information about the various training programmes organised at STEAM Centres operating within the STEAM Azerbaijan project to develop schoolchildren’s scientific and technical knowledge, creativity and practical skills. Through these programmes, schoolchildren acquire knowledge in coding, robotics, mechatronics, programmable systems, artificial intelligence, CAD and CNC technologies, alternative energy, drone technologies, arts and creativity, entrepreneurship skills and other areas.
Participants then took a closer look at the Mingachevir STEAM Centre’s classrooms and existing infrastructure. During the tour, they were informed about the modern learning environment, technological resources and facilities for practical activities available in the centre’s “Engineering zone”, “Kids zone”, “Science zone”, “Work zone”, “Robotics zone”, “Art zone” and “Drone zone”. Participants expanded their knowledge of the application of STEAM methodology, innovative teaching methods and opportunities to translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills.
The educational meeting proved valuable in promoting innovative approaches in education, developing digital skills and deepening participants’ understanding of the importance of a creative learning environment. The event also contributed to raising awareness of the integration of modern technologies into education and urban planning, strengthening environmental responsibility and developing a mindset focused on a sustainable future.
Mingachevir State University continues its efforts to improve the quality of education, expand innovative learning opportunities and equip students with the knowledge and skills required by the modern labour market.
