MDU holds an event on volunteering and social support in tourism

On October 26, 2026, an awareness-raising event entitled “Student to Student: Volunteering and Social Support in Tourism” was held at Mingachevir State University (MDU), organised by Madina Guliyeva, a lecturer at the Department of Tourism Business and Marketing.

The main purpose of the event was to explain the essence of the goal of eradicating poverty, raise awareness of the role of volunteering and mutual support in improving social well-being, and discuss prospects for sustainable development in tourism.

The event was attended by fourth-year students Banu Abdullayeva, Elshad Amrahov, Amin Huseynov and Umid Hasanov, who stand out for their volunteering activities in the university’s public and social life. Based on peer-to-peer experience sharing, the meeting highlighted the importance of young people’s active participation in civic initiatives and the development of a culture of mutual assistance. Students engaged in volunteering shared their experiences and informed participants about the knowledge and skills they had gained in this field. The event was held in an interactive format, with participants exchanging views on volunteering and social support.

The discussions emphasised the role of volunteering in strengthening social solidarity, increasing attention to people in need of support and developing students’ sense of social responsibility. Attention was also paid to the potential of volunteering initiatives in tourism to contribute to community well-being and sustainable development.

The event was aimed at expanding students’ knowledge of sustainable development principles, increasing their interest in volunteering and developing their cooperation skills. The importance of such initiatives in strengthening an environment based on mutual support and inclusion at the university was noted.
