An academic seminar aimed at developing students’ economic analysis skills held at MDU

On 26 October 2026, an academic seminar entitled “Firm Behaviour in a Perfectly Competitive Market” was held at Mingachevir State University (MDU) by Tukazban Gasimova, a lecturer in the Department of Economics.

The main purpose of the seminar was to broaden students’ knowledge of market models, develop their economic analysis and informed decision-making skills, and support the practical application of theoretical knowledge.

The seminar explained the nature and main characteristics of a perfectly competitive market and examined the inability of a firm operating in such a market to influence prices, as well as its adaptation to existing market conditions. Firm behaviour in the short and long run and decisions made under conditions of profit and loss were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the economic foundations of a firm’s decisions to continue operating, temporarily shut down or exit the market. Information was also provided on the formation of long-run market equilibrium and the importance of efficient resource use in a competitive environment.

To support a practical understanding of the topic, examples of markets in Azerbaijan with characteristics resembling the model of perfect competition were analysed. Connecting theoretical approaches with real economic processes was intended to deepen students’ understanding of market relations and strengthen their analytical thinking skills.

The seminar was significant in supporting quality education, strengthening students’ preparation for their future professional careers, and increasing their knowledge of the principles of efficiency and responsibility in economic decision-making.
