Since October 21, 2026, Mingachevir State University (MDU) has been offering free beginner-level English language courses to develop students’ foreign language skills and expand their language learning opportunities. Organized by the International Language Centre of the university’s Lifelong Learning School, the courses are intended for students who have never studied English or have only basic knowledge of the language.
Classes are taught by Shahnaz Mahishzade, Aysel Aliyeva, Laman Zeynalova-Mammadzade, and Nazira Mammadova, lecturers in the Department of Foreign Languages. Classes are held online four times a week.
The curriculum covers the acquisition of basic grammatical knowledge, vocabulary enrichment, and the gradual development of reading, listening, and speaking skills. Designed for beginners, the classes aim to increase students’ interest in language learning and develop basic skills for communicating in English.
Participation in the courses is entirely free, increasing students’ access to language education and supporting equal learning opportunities. Alongside promoting quality education and lifelong learning, this initiative contributes to students’ future academic and professional development. Strengthening foreign language skills lays the foundation for accessing international educational resources, engaging in intercultural communication, and benefiting from academic mobility opportunities.
The courses are a continuation of MDU’s efforts to provide systematic support for foreign language learning. As part of these efforts, placement tests aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) were held at the university on September 17 and 24, as well as October 4, 2026.
