On 23 September 2026, Mingachevir State University (MSU) and Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) signed a cooperation agreement aimed at training highly qualified engineers in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Energy Engineering, strengthening education and research, and advancing innovation and technology transfer.
The agreement provides for the two universities to draw on their academic and research capabilities to align engineering education more closely with the current needs of industry and the labour market. Key areas of cooperation include jointly improving curricula, adapting elective courses to labour market needs, and arranging exchanges of students and academic staff. Under the agreement, at least 10 MSU students are expected to study at AzTU for one semester through an exchange programme.
The agreement was signed during the “UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026 Results & Awards Ceremony”, hosted by Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University. It marks a step towards practical cooperation between the universities, particularly in energy and electrical and electronics engineering.
Another key area of cooperation is reciprocal access to the universities’ laboratories, research centres, scientific equipment and other academic facilities. The universities also plan to organise innovation competitions and startup projects for students, expand technology transfer activities, and support the commercialisation of innovative solutions in the energy sector.
The agreement places particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation between universities and industry. Plans include expanding joint activities with energy and industrial enterprises, arranging practical training for students, involving industry specialists in teaching, and developing applied projects. Applied research drawing on the capabilities of energy and industrial enterprises in Mingachevir will also form part of the cooperation.
The universities will work together to develop joint undergraduate curricula and establish mechanisms for future joint degree programmes. The curricula, admission rules, duration of study and other academic matters relating to such programmes will be determined through separate agreements.
The cooperation between MSU and AzTU is expected to connect engineering education with laboratory work, research and real industry experience. It will help students develop practical skills in modern energy and electrical and electronics technologies while expanding the universities’ joint research and innovation activities.
