The “Creating a Green Zone Park Together with Eco Volunteers” project, implemented under the 8th Grant Competition of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has been successfully completed. The project aimed to increase environmental awareness among school students, promote environmental volunteering, and educate young people on methods of reducing and managing plastic waste through a series of educational and practical activities.
The closing ceremony was held in the newly established Eco Park at Khaldan Village Comprehensive Secondary School. During the event, volunteers planted more than 100 ornamental trees and flowering shrubs, contributing to the creation of a greener and healthier school environment. This initiative encouraged students to develop greater environmental awareness and a stronger sense of responsibility for protecting nature.
Members of the “One Volunteer” Student Organization of Mingachevir State University (MSU) also participated in the closing event. Together with the school’s eco volunteers and participating students, they joined the tree-planting campaign and supported the greening of the school grounds. During the activity, students received practical guidance on tree care and learned about the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable landscape management.
Speaking at the event, Gunel Yusifzade, Principal of Khaldan Village Comprehensive Secondary School, emphasized that the project had made a significant contribution to improving students’ environmental knowledge and practical skills. She also highlighted the importance of continuing similar environmental initiatives in the future.
Project Manager Vusala Gasimova noted that the establishment of the Green Zone Park has created a healthier and more environmentally friendly learning environment for students and stressed the importance of encouraging them to take ownership of and care for the newly created green space.
Project Expert Aynur Araz underlined the importance of promoting environmental volunteering among schoolchildren and fostering the development of environmentally responsible citizens who actively contribute to sustainable communities.
Shabnam Islamova, Lecturer at Mingachevir State University and professional trainer, emphasized that raising awareness of environmental issues is essential not only for students but for society as a whole. She highlighted the importance of expanding similar initiatives to reach wider communities in the future.
During the closing ceremony, students shared their thoughts on how environmental knowledge and sustainable practices could positively influence their future lives. At the end of the event, certificates were presented to students who had actively participated in the project.
The project has made a valuable contribution to strengthening environmental education and promoting eco-volunteering at Khaldan Village Comprehensive Secondary School while transforming the school grounds into a greener, healthier, and more sustainable environment. To ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative, the school’s eco volunteers will continue carrying out tree-planting and environmental maintenance activities.
The participation of the “One Volunteer” Student Organization of Mingachevir State University also laid the foundation for expanding environmental cooperation between the university and secondary schools, encouraging future joint initiatives in sustainability and environmental education.
