Knowledge Transfer Training on Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Food Security Held at Mingachevir State University

  • Post category:NEWS

On November 16, 2025, Mingachevir State University (MSU) organized a scientific and practical training session entitled “Climate-Resilient Agriculture: Modern Challenges and Adaptation Mechanisms.”

The primary objective of the training was to promote sustainable agricultural development in the context of climate change, strengthen food security, facilitate access to modern agricultural knowledge and technologies, and encourage the efficient use of resources in agricultural production.

The training brought together university students, young researchers, and 16 local farmers representing five different agricultural enterprises. The participation of local farmers provided an opportunity for direct knowledge transfer between academia and agricultural producers, supporting the development of practical skills and improving access to scientific knowledge and innovative farming technologies.

The training was conducted by Kenan Abbasov, a lecturer at the Department of Economics of Mingachevir State University. During the session, participants received comprehensive information on the impacts of climate change on agricultural production, risk management in the agricultural sector, and the development of sustainable farming models.

The training covered several key areas:

  • Sustainable Irrigation Technologies: Application of drip irrigation systems, reduction of water losses, and efficient management of water resources.
  • Soil Fertility Management: Soil analysis-based fertilization methods, sustainable soil management, and improvement of agricultural productivity.
  • Climate-Resilient Farming: Selection of drought- and salinity-resistant seed varieties and adaptation of agricultural practices to changing climatic conditions.
  • Digital Agriculture: Access to digital agricultural information platforms, meteorological early warning systems, and agricultural risk assessment tools.
  • Food Security: Maintaining agricultural productivity under climate change conditions and promoting sustainable local food production.
  • Government Support and Agricultural Innovation: Agricultural development policies in Azerbaijan, subsidy mechanisms, and opportunities for adopting innovative technologies.

The training was conducted in an interactive format, allowing participants to ask questions, exchange experiences, and discuss practical solutions to challenges faced by the agricultural sector.

Particular emphasis was placed on facilitating knowledge exchange between university representatives and local farmers, enabling agricultural producers to gain insights into modern farming methods, resource-efficient production practices, and climate adaptation strategies.

The participation of 16 farmers from five agricultural enterprises demonstrated the University’s engagement with the local agricultural community and its efforts to make scientific knowledge and practical agricultural expertise accessible beyond the university environment.

Through this initiative, Mingachevir State University provided local farmers with access to knowledge and skills related to food security, sustainable agriculture, climate-resilient farming, and innovative agricultural technologies.

The training also contributed to strengthening university–farmer cooperation, promoting the practical application of academic knowledge, and encouraging sustainable agricultural practices at the regional level.

This initiative reflects Mingachevir State University’s commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2 – Zero Hunger), particularly through improving access to agricultural knowledge, supporting local food producers, promoting sustainable farming practices, and contributing to long-term food security.
