On 22 October 2026, students of Mingachevir State University (MSU) made an educational visit to the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant (TPP) to expand their knowledge of the efficient use of energy resources, energy conservation and environmental sustainability.
A group of the university’s academic staff and students participated in the visit, jointly organised by MSU’s Student Affairs Department and Department of Management. The visit aimed to reinforce students’ theoretical knowledge of energy efficiency, the rational use of resources and environmental protection through practical experience.
During the educational visit, students learned about the stages of electricity generation, the principles of energy resource use and the environmental impacts of production processes. The importance of improving efficiency in energy production, reducing resource losses and minimising environmental risks was highlighted. Participants also expanded their knowledge of the characteristics of conventional energy production and alternative and renewable energy sources, the diversification of energy sources and the prospects for transitioning to environmentally sustainable energy systems.
Linked to the teaching of the “Environmental Economics” course, the visit provided students with an opportunity to examine the economic and environmental aspects of energy production in a real industrial setting. In this context, particular importance was attached to the efficient management of energy resources, strengthening environmental responsibility in production processes and maintaining a balance between economic development and environmental protection.
The visit contributed to the development of students’ analytical thinking, observation and application of theoretical knowledge in practice, while also broadening their understanding of energy security, responsible consumption and sustainable development principles. Such educational initiatives are also important in strengthening a student-centred learning environment, expanding practical learning opportunities and preparing future professionals in line with labour market requirements.
Mingachevir State University continues its efforts to ensure quality education, expand university–industry cooperation, promote the responsible use of energy and natural resources, and foster environmental awareness and a culture of sustainable development among young people.
