On October 20, 2026, Energy Workers’ Day, Mingachevir State University (MSU) held the opening ceremony of the region’s first and largest “GreenAI” Solar Energy Laboratory. Established to advance green energy technologies, modernize engineering education, and expand research opportunities, the laboratory has been made available to academic staff and students.

The opening ceremony was attended by MSU Rector Anar Eminov, members of the university’s academic staff and employees, Sabuhi Murselov, Head of the Mingachevir Branch of the Energy Regulatory Agency, Gabil Valiyev, the branch’s energy inspector, and Ahad Guliyev, Deputy Director of the High Voltage Electric Networks under Azerenergy OJSC.

Speaking at the event, Rector Anar Eminov emphasized that the launch of the “GreenAI” Solar Energy Laboratory represents a significant step toward advancing modern engineering education, strengthening students’ practical skills, and conducting innovative research in renewable energy.

The Rector highlighted the fact that the laboratory was inaugurated on October 20 – Energy Workers’ Day, describing it as a particularly meaningful occasion. He noted that establishing such a laboratory in Mingachevir, one of Azerbaijan’s major energy hubs, aims to contribute to the future development of the energy sector, the adoption of green technologies, and the training of highly qualified engineering professionals.

“The opening of a new laboratory on Energy Workers’ Day reflects both our respect for the professionals working in Azerbaijan’s energy sector and our commitment to an important initiative focused on the future of this field. Our goal is to train specialists who can combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills, master modern energy technologies, and develop innovative solutions,” Anar Eminov emphasized.

It was noted that the new laboratory will provide academic staff and students with opportunities to design and model solar energy systems, analyze energy efficiency, and assess technical and economic performance indicators. Teaching and research activities will involve the use of modern software, including SAM (System Advisor Model) and PVsyst, as well as the integration of artificial intelligence and digital technologies into renewable energy systems.

The scientific expertise and international cooperation opportunities of the Solar Energy Research and Application Center (GÜNAM) at Middle East Technical University (METU), Türkiye, have played a particularly important role in establishing the laboratory.

During the ceremony, participants familiarized themselves with the laboratory’s facilities and capabilities. Rector Anar Eminov expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the energy sector who attended the opening and emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among education, science, and industry.

The establishment of the “GreenAI” Solar Energy Laboratory aligns with the objectives of MSU’s Strategic Development Plan through 2030 and the “Green Campus 2030” concept. The initiative is intended to accelerate the university’s green transformation, foster a research and innovation environment, and support the training of the next generation of energy professionals.
