On 14 October 2026, a seminar on “The Economic Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources Management” was held at Mingachevir State University (MDU), presented by Tansu Rashidova, a lecturer at the Department of Economics.
The main objective of the seminar was to raise awareness of the economic impacts of climate change on water resources and their management, highlight the importance of efficient water resource use, and contribute to promoting sustainable management approaches.
The seminar addressed the impact of climate change on the availability, distribution and use of water resources, the socio-economic challenges caused by water scarcity, and the importance of water resource conservation for economic development. Particular attention was drawn to the effects of increasing drought, changes in precipitation patterns and declining water resources on agriculture, industry and the energy sector, as well as on production costs and productivity.
The seminar also covered economic regulation mechanisms in water resource management, the modernisation of irrigation systems, the application of water-saving technologies, the reduction of water losses, and investment in the development of relevant infrastructure. The potential risks posed by inefficient water use to food security, regional economic development and public well-being were also highlighted.
The importance of reconciling economic efficiency with the preservation of ecological balance under conditions of limited water resources was emphasised during the event. The responsible use of water resources, the application of modern technologies and the strengthening of adaptation measures to address the impacts of climate change were highlighted as essential conditions for sustainable development.
The seminar contributed to expanding knowledge of the economic consequences of climate change, the conservation and efficient management of natural resources, and the promotion of environmental responsibility and sustainable development principles within the educational environment.
