Mingachevir State University (MSU) has achieved another significant milestone in the international higher education arena. According to the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026 results, the university ranked 6th in Azerbaijan.
The results were officially announced on September 24, 2026, in Baku, during the “UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026 Results & Awards Ceremony,” hosted by Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University. A delegation led by MSU Rector Anar Eminov represented the university at the international event.
At the awards ceremony, the final positions of Azerbaijan’s highest-performing higher education institutions in UI GreenMetric 2026 were announced. Mingachevir State University’s rise to 6th place nationwide is one of the significant results of its systematic work in sustainable development, environmental responsibility, green campus practices, and efficient resource management.
One aspect that makes this result particularly significant is that MSU is the only university located outside the capital to rank among Azerbaijan’s top ten. MSU has thereby further strengthened its position among regional universities in sustainability and the “green university” agenda.
Another significant aspect of the event was that Azerbaijan hosted the announcement of the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings results and the awards ceremony for the first time. University leaders, academics, and sustainability experts from various countries participated in the international event, held from September 23 to 25. The programme included panel discussions, workshops, and scientific sessions on sustainable university management, climate responsibility, green campuses, water and energy resource management, digital sustainability, and other current topics.
MSU’s 6th-place ranking in Azerbaijan in UI GreenMetric 2026 is another indication that the university has made sustainable development principles a key part of its management and campus life, while steadily strengthening its position in international rankings.
