Mingachevir State University (MDU) is taking significant steps to enhance teachers’ foreign language proficiency and align teaching with international standards.

As part of these efforts, seven lecturers from the university’s Department of Foreign Languages participated today in the TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) Module 1 exam. This exam is an internationally recognized certification program by Cambridge University Press & Assessment and contributes substantially to teachers’ professional development.

It should be noted that in May 2025, a Letter of Intent on cooperation was signed between MDU and International Training and Assessment Center (ITAC), the official representative of Cambridge University Press & Assessment in Azerbaijan. Within this framework, it is planned to align academic programs at the university with Cambridge standards and to support the participation of teachers and students in TKT and other international examinations.

In addition, within the framework of the “Assessment and Teaching of English Language” project, a free professional English language course will be organized for 40 university staff members. The training will be implemented in cooperation with the British Council, the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Azerbaijan, and MDU. The program, starting on October 6, will be delivered in a hybrid format (online and face-to-face seminars), and participants’ levels will be determined through the British Council Aptis diagnostic test prior to the start of the project.

Within the training program, teachers below the B2 level will attend a 160 academic-hour general English course. Those at B2 level and above will participate in an 80-hour general English course and an additional 80-hour methodology training. Subject teachers will be offered a 140 academic-hour program combining general English and methodology training.

These initiatives aim to enhance the professionalism of MDU’s teaching staff, expand access to international certification opportunities, and ensure that teaching quality meets global standards.
